Welcome to the website of Michigan State University’s alumni club for The Villages,Florida area. Founded in 2007 and chartered in February of 2008, The Villages Area MSU Alumni Club, today numbers over 250 members and is still growing. The club is for alumni and fans. While dedicated to promoting and supporting the mission of Michigan State University, the Club actively provides many opportunities for fellow Spartan fans to enjoy social, athletic, cultural and charitable events together.

Our Activities Calendar provides for monthly social activities, football and basketball game watches, tailgate parties, social and dance nights on The Villages’ Squares, group attendance at area entertainment events, golf outings and support of worthy local organizations.

MSU, we love thy shadows
When twilight silence falls,
Flushing deep and softly paling
O’er ivy covered halls;
Beneath the pines we’ll gather
To give our faith so true,
Sing our love for Alma Mater
And thy praises, MSU.

To The Villages Spartans,

To say that 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us would be a huge understatement.  We hope all of you are safe and healthy.  Unfortunately, a number of our members have contracted Covid and our thoughts and prayers go out to them.

The Board had a Zoom meeting this week and a primary topic was club activities. Several small groups are continuing – ladies golf, game watches, and dine around.  Barb Coulter will be contacting you soon regarding participation in the next set of dining groups and will be introducing a new option for a picnic group for those that choose not to dine indoors. You already receive invitations to game watches and if you are interested in ladies golf, please let us know.

It is with a great deal of regret that the board has decided to suspend monthly meetings for January, February and March. A decision on the April picnic will be made at a later date.  We will not be collecting the annual activities fee until we resume activities.

The annual meeting and election processes will be done via electronic means. The Nominating Committee has nominated Dan Tibbets for re-election to an additional term and has nominated Debbie Huntley, Don Hand and Bonnie Pennington as new board candidates.  Liz Jacobs and Julie Gee have completed their terms and are leaving the board with our sincere thanks for their contributions.  If you have an additional nomination, please contact Barb Coulter, the chair of the Nominating Committee, by December 31st at tcbarb10@aol.com.

The Toys for Tots collection was very successful, and have already received a note from the Activities Committee detailing the results.  The Education Committee is also completing their work and we will be sending the details along soon.  Thank you for your continuing support of these efforts that help make a difference in our community.

As has been the case since March, we miss the fellowship of our gatherings and look forward to the day we can resume our meetings and events.

Stay safe and Spartan strong.

Rich Rasmussen
