Welcome to the website of Michigan State University’s alumni club for The Villages, Florida area. Founded in 2007 and chartered in February of 2008, Villages Spartans, today numbers over 250 members and is still growing. The club is for alumni and fans. While dedicated to promoting and supporting the mission of Michigan State University, the Club actively provides many opportunities for fellow Spartan fans to enjoy social, athletic, cultural, and charitable events together.

Letter from The President: Club Changes

As your President, I wanted to update you on actions your Board of Directors has been working on since January’s Annual Meeting. Club By-Laws were last updated almost 6 years ago. Since then, there have been changes in The Villages Activities as well as changes in services provided by MSU. The updates are contained in the New By-Laws approved by the University.

Effective October 1, 2023, Villages Spartans will become a “Villages Lifestyle Club”. After much discussion, the Board felt it necessary to access the benefits of becoming a Villages Lifestyle Club. Doing so will allow us to obtain new facilities in the center of The Villages, use Villages advertising, and allow for the growth of the Club and activities.
As a result, The Monthly Activities will be held in a Villages Regional Recreation Center. Entrance to these facilities will require a valid Villages ID, which The Villages Staff will check at the door. This is only for the monthly club activities. This effort will reduce overcrowding situations and volume limits that were implemented earlier this year. It will also considerably reduce club meeting costs.

What this does not mean is that attendance at other club functions is affected. Anyone can attend Spartans on the Square, Coaches Club, Game Watches, off-site golf, College Colors Days, picnics, and other activities that are not held in the recreation centers. Club Membership will still provide you Notifications and sign ups for the other activities.

As part of the change, the club will be changing its name to “Villages Spartans”. This new name has been reviewed and approved by the University. “The Villages Area MSU Alumni Club” will no longer be used. This is consistent with the University Webpage lookup for Florida. The University will also work with any current member displaced by the Club change.

The Board will continue working on a Club Directory and other Membership issues over the next few months. We will fill you in on future changes when they become available. Our goal is to complete them by the end of the calendar year.
