Welcome to the website of Michigan State University’s alumni club for The Villages,Florida area. Founded in 2007 and chartered in February of 2008, The Villages Area MSU Alumni Club, today numbers over 250 members and is still growing. The club is for alumni and fans. While dedicated to promoting and supporting the mission of Michigan State University, the Club actively provides many opportunities for fellow Spartan fans to enjoy social, athletic, cultural and charitable events together.

Our Activities Calendar provides for monthly social activities, football and basketball game watches, tailgate parties, social and dance nights on The Villages’ Squares, group attendance at area entertainment events, golf outings and support of worthy local organizations.

MSU, we love thy shadows
When twilight silence falls,
Flushing deep and softly paling
O’er ivy covered halls;
Beneath the pines we’ll gather
To give our faith so true,
Sing our love for Alma Mater
And thy praises, MSU.

To The Villages Spartans,

Your board met on March 8th via Zoom.  We have been meeting monthly online since suspending activities in March.  At this meeting a final decision was made to not resume activities for this Spring due to pandemic concerns. Sadly, that means there will be no April picnic.

We traditionally do not have regular meetings in May, June, July, August and September.  Fall dinner groups will be forming in September.  We then plan to resume a full slate of activities in October.  Please mark your calendars for the following Fridays so that you can join in starting then.  It has been far too long and we are all anxious to get together again.
Our meeting dates are:
October 1st at Churchill Rec Center
November 5th at Lake Miona Rec Center
December 3rd at Churchill Rec Center
January 7th at Lake Miona Rec Center
February 11th at Canal Street Rec Center
March 11th (location not finalized yet)
We will end our season with our April picnic (date to be determined).

The activities committee will be hard at work making plans over the next several months.  They always do a terrific job in planning our events and we thank them for their efforts.

We are, of course, saddened that our club has been largely dormant for almost a year.  At the same time, with the increasing availability of vaccines, we are optimistic that our period of inactivity will come to an end in the fall.

On Sunday, March 7th, our Spartans took on the second ranked Wolverines, and came away with a hard fought victory.  In the span of just a few weeks, the unranked Spartans beat three top 5 teams – something very few of us expected.  Talk about Spartan proud!  They’ve come a long way this season and now we will get a chance to root them on in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.  March Madness is alive and well in East Lansing!

Have a great Spring and Summer – and GO GREEN!

Rich Rasmussen
President
